Oman Signs Three Major Transport Agreements
Muscat, Oman – In a significant move to bolster its transport and logistics sector, the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology of Oman signed three strategic agreements on Thursday in Muscat. The agreements aim to enhance road infrastructure, develop port facilities, and improve maritime services across the Sultanate.
Eng Said bin Hamoud al Maawali, Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, oversaw the signing of the agreements. The first agreement, with Galfar Engineering and Contracting, greenlights a 30-kilometer dual carriageway project between Izki and Nizwa in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate. This initiative includes constructing service roads, expanding connecting roads, developing a vehicle tunnel, and building a new road to Jabal Al Akhdhar.
The second agreement, with Manji International Ports, focuses on establishing a port for quarry product transportation in Shaleem and Al Hallaniyat Islands. This project, to be implemented over 18 months, will support the mining sector by providing a direct export channel for minerals, reducing costs, and enhancing the competitiveness of Omani products.
The third agreement, signed with Oman Integrated Logistics Services, outlines an investment framework for ship supply and crew change activities at Sultan Qaboos Port. This two-year project aims to improve port services, aligning with its role as a key tourism hub. The approach involves market analysis, identifying investment opportunities, developing a marketing strategy, and establishing performance indicators.
These agreements reflect Oman’s commitment to its Vision 2040, which seeks to diversify the national economy by strengthening non-oil sectors.
